Considering the much improved business and economic relations between Indonesia and the Netherlands which brings about a rise in tourist flow into Indonesia from Europe, effective from 1 June 2010, Garuda Indonesia will re-open its Jakarta-Amsterdam service.
Tuesday, 13 Oktober 2008 - Miss Universe 2009, Stefania Fernandez, accompanied by Putri Indonesia 2009, Qori Sandioriva, visited the Garuda Indonesia Head Office at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport where they were received by Garuda Indonesia President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar, at the new Management Building.
In anticipation of the rise in passenger volume during Lebaran, which this year falls on the 21-22 September, 2009, from September 16-28, 2009 (five days before and six days after Lebaran) Garuda Indonesia will add 42.226 seats on 17 routes (10 domestic services and 7 international services). Meanwhile, other routes are predicted to experience an ordinary flow of passengers and as yet will not require additional seats.
On Wednesday, 19th August 2009, Garuda Indonesia signed a "2009/2010 Hajj Flights Agreement" with the Department of Religious Affairs of the Republic Indonesia, reaffirming the airline’s commitment to carry out hajj operations for the 2009/2010 hajj season. The signatories were the Director General for the Management of Hajj & Umrah, Slamet Riyanto and Garuda Indonesia's President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar.
In order to improve its services to costumers and as part of the realization of the development plan of its network, Garuda Indonesia reinstate direct flight from Jakarta to Sydney, Melbourne, and Seoul .
On Thursday, 23 July 2009, the President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono officially opened the new "Garuda Indonesia Management Building" located in an area known as the "Garuda Indonesia City Center", at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng.
