To maximize on its resources, Garuda Indonesia will deploy its aircraft to more prospective and profitable routes.
On December 2008, Garuda Indonesia began serving the Yogyakarta - Singapore route using B-737. On 15 and 16 January 2009, Garuda Indonesia then opened three new domestic routes, namely Jakarta-Tanjung Karang, Jakarta-Malang and Jakarta-Kendari vv.
On February 1 and 2, Garuda also began operating B-737 on new routes; Surabaya-Hong Kong and Denpasar-Hong Kong vv. as well as on Denpasar-Ampenan, as of April 1, 2009.
As of April 15, 2009 Garuda Indonesia increased its flight frequencies on the Jakarta-Malang and Jakarta-Tanjung Karang, from once daily to twice per day to accommodate rising passenger growth. Garuda Indonesia will also add flights from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur, from once to twice daily, effective 1 May, 2009.
Garuda Indonesia is also scheduled to begin the Jakarta-Jambi and Jakarta-Denpasar-Kupang services on may 1, 2009 by operating B-737 once daily.
Furthermore, in the coming months, Garuda Indonesia will also begin operating new routes, such as Jakarta-Pangkal Pinang in June 2009, Jakarta-Ambon-Ternate in July 2009, Jakarta-Palu in August 2009, Jakarta-Sorong-Manokwari in September 2009, and Denpasar-Brisbane in November 2009.
Considering the current unstable political condition in Thailand, Garuda Indonesia temporarily reduced flight frequencies to Bangkok, from seven to three times a week as of April 24, 2009. Due to low passenger volume from several foreign destinations caused by the current global economic crisis, Garuda Indonesia also discontinued its Denpasar-Darwin service, which has so far been served three times a week. Garuda Indonesia flies to Sydney, Melbourne and Perth in Australia.
Meanwhile, continuing with its fleet development program, on June 2009, Garuda Indonesia will welcome new B737-800NG and A-330 aircraft as part of its existing fleet.
