Thanks to the efforts and the various improvements implemented in a sustainable, especially in the aspects of services, operations and human resources, Garuda Indonesia again successfully achieve "Service Quality Award 2009" with the classification of "Diamond" for the two categories, namely "Service Domestic Airline" and "International Airline Service".
To prevent the spread of the A Influenza (H1N1) - Swine Flu in Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia has taken several anticipatory measures and consulted with various airport authorities in Indonesia and in countries served by Garuda Indonesia for the handling of passengers suspected of having been infected by the virus.
To maximize on its resources, Garuda Indonesia will deploy its aircraft to more prospective and profitable routes. On December 2008, Garuda Indonesia began serving the Yogyakarta - Singapore route using B-737. On 15 and 16 January 2009, Garuda Indonesia then opened three new domestic routes, namely Jakarta-Tanjung Karang, Jakarta-Malang and Jakarta-Kendari vv.
Despite the current global economic crisis, in 2008 Garuda Indonesia managed to book a net profit of Rp. 669 billion. The Company achievement resulted from the improvement measures and programs which covered commercial, operational, and financial aspects, employee productivity enhancement as well as the efficiency program.
On April 1, 2009, Garuda Indonesia resumed its Mataram-Denpasar vv. service after the route’s temporary closing last year due to the global economic crisis. Apart from keeping in line with Garuda Indonesia’s network expansion program in 2009, which introduces 18 new routes, the re-opening of the route is part of Garuda Indonesia’s service improvement efforts and meets current market demands.
Garuda Indonesia, National Flag Carrier of Indonesia, has signed an operating lease agreement with DAE Capital, the aircraft leasing and financial business arm of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE). The signing ceremony attended by Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, during the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) today (02/03), in Ritz Carlton Hotel - Pacific Place, Jakarta.
Garuda Indonesia and China Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will aid the Indonesian carrier's ongoing network development, improve service quality and offer better value to customers.
Effective February 2, 2009, Garuda Indonesia resumed its Denpasar - Hong Kong flight service following the re-opening of the Surabaya - Hong Kong route on the previous day (February 1, 2009). Apart from keeping in line with Garuda Indonesia's network expansion program for 2009 which introduces 18 new routes, the move was made in anticipation of the rise in visitors flow, particularly from Hong Kong and China, to Bali.
To provide customers with greater benefits and facilities in reservation bookings and ticket purchases, Garuda Indonesia introduced the "Garuda Indonesia Online Booking".
