Jakarta, 18 March 2016 – Garuda Indonesia – the Indonesia’s flag carrier – on March 16th, announced the appointment of Juliandra Nurtjahjo as the new President and CEO of PT Garuda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia (GMF), a subsidiary for integrated aircraft maintenance, including engine and aircraft components repair services. Juliandra Nurtjahjo is replacing Richard Budihadianto the former President and CEO since 2007.

In his first speech after the handover ceremony, Juliandra expressed his gratitude for the trust given, and his appointment as the GMF President & CEO is both an honor and a challenge, especially in realizing the GMF’s vision to be a competitive global player in the Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industry.

“GMF will strive to become 'Top 10 MRO in the World' by 2020. Together with all employees and management, GMF will be ready to realize the company vision. What GMF has reached today is surely a part of the previous management’s successful effort. All of GMF's positive achievements are our strength yet also become a challenge for us to keep improving the positive performance in the future,” said Juliandra.

Juliandra added that currently GMF is conducting the acceleration of company’s long term strategy in 2016 – 2020, and is committed to achieve the USD 1 Billion target by 2018, two years earlier than the initial plan. “Based on the accelerate roadmap, GMF revenues are projected to reach USD 1.6 Billion by 2020, or increasing 335% from this year," he said.

To achieve that, GMF divides its strategy into ‘organic growth’ and ‘inorganic growth’. The organic growth will be applied through capabilities development, capacity optimization and expansion, strategic partnerships and business expansion including in general aviation. Referring to that, GMF will strengthen its business portfolio in components and engines, as well as maintaining airframe business performance, and accelerate the company milestones implementation that significantly potential to impact on the achievement of revenue targets.

Aside from that, in the near future, GMF will focusing on inorganic growth through new business entity and merger/acquisition. The inorganic growth revenue will increase every year and targeted to reach up to 20% in 2018. To this matter, GMF is planning for an initiation with the local MRO companies whilst approaching the manufacturers and the global MROs to enhance domestic market’s merge and capture both regional and world-class MRO.

“In the future, GMF will serve the aircraft maintenance facilities in Eastern Indonesia supporting the General Aviation and footprint in Europe, East Asia and the Middle East to develop the international market,” said Juliandra.

In line with the inorganic growth, Juliandra added that human resources are the substantial contributing factor. Therefore, in order to guarantee the availability and competency of human resources required by the company, GMF plans to build the "GMF Academy". "The availability of competent and reliable engineers and technicians is an absolute requirement to support inorganic growth," added Juliandra.

Further, Juliandra said that the current business strength in GMF is supported by the presence of GMF’s four hangars in which one of them namely Hangar 4 is the biggest narrow body aircraft hangar in the world. "In the midst of rapid growth and development of national and global aviation industry, GMF aspires to detract the national carrier aircraft maintenance dependency in abroad maintenance. With a wide range of facilities supported by thousands of high-skilled personnel, GMF is quite optimistic to optimally support both local and international airlines to comply the global aviation safety standard as well as accessibility of spare parts requirements," said Juliandra.

At the inauguration event of GMF’s Hangar 4 in September 2015, Indonesian State-owned Enterprise Minister, Rini M. Soemarno, said that the Hangar 4 is expected not only to intensify stronger support on Garuda Indonesia Group’s main business but also to increase company’s revenue. “The Hangar 4 should also be the strength for GMF to keep on improving the positive growth and performance as well to establish GMF as a global player in world’s Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) industry,” she added.

In line with that, at the ‘Site Visit’ to GMF in February, Indonesian Minister of Industry Saleh Husin pointed that Indonesia’s government through the “8th Economic Policy Package” highly support the aviation industry to be competitive to get into the industrial enterprises competition in the region and actively participating in promoting future economic growth.

Originated as the Technical Division of Garuda Indonesia, GMF officially became an independent subsidiary in 2002. Up until now, GMF is now rightly considered as one of the best and largest aircraft maintenance companies in the region, which committed to provide integrated and reliable aircraft maintenance solution for a safer sky and secured quality.

GMF’s credibility in MRO industry has been recognized both in local and global level – in the form of the certificate of approval – from several authorities, among others, the Indonesian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA – Indonesia), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA – America), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA – European), the Civil Aviation Security Authority (CASA – Australia) and various certifications given by more than 25 countries around the world. In 2016, GMF has been certified as a low-risk aircraft maintenance company by The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
