HOSTING SUPERVISORY BOARD MEETING IN BALI, GARUDA INDONESIA AND 19 MEMBER AIRLINES SKYTEAM STRENGTHENS GLOBAL ALLIANCE NETWORK

Nusa Dua, 12 October 2016 -  Global airline alliance SkyTeam has teamed up with national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia to host its annual meeting in Bali, on Oct. 12-13 2016 to discuss future aviation business strategies and the expansion of global alliances.

"This regular meeting, attended by officials from SkyTeam's 20 carrier members, aims to address strategic issues, including expansion of the global alliance network, to determine an operating budget and equip members with international standards of service to best serve customers," Garuda Indonesia president director Arif Wibowo said in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Wednesday (12/10).

SkyTeam chief executive Perry Cantarutti said SkyTeam is also eying a presence in China as well as in the archipelago – through Garuda Indonesia – to position itself to become the flight hub for SkyTeam airline members to China.

Through SkyTeam's network services, customers can make use of 672 SkyTeam lounges in more than 1,062 fight destinations in 177 countries. It also serves more than 655 million passengers annually and has combined fleet of 3,937 aircraft.

Garuda Indonesia joined SkyTeam in 2014, becoming its 20th member. The national flag carrier is the only member that has been recognized as a "five-star airline" by Skytrax – a London-based consultancy that reviews airports and airlines around the world – for three consecutive years. Eight other carriers in the alliance were awarded four stars and the remainder, three stars.

As part of the alliance, Garuda Indonesia can continue promoting its services to both domestic and international customers, while strengthening the country's position in the global airline industry and as a tourism destination.  As a member of SkyTeam, Garuda Indonesia can continue promoting distinctive service "Garuda Indonesia Experience" known as a services concept which adapted from Indonesian cultural values ​​to its global customers.

In line with the development program undertaken SkyTeam alliance network, the presence of Garuda Indonesia also opened a network for other members to get to the cities of the largest economic center in Southeast Asia such as Jakarta, Makassar, Medan, Surabaya and Balikpapan. It also strengthens the SkyTeam presence in Australia and Tokyo via routes that are served by Garuda such as Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, Narita and Haneda.

The inclusion of Garuda Indonesia allows SkyTeam members to connect to other cities in the archipelago, such as Makassar (South Sulawesi), Medan (North Sumatra), Surabaya (East Java) and Balikpapan (East Kalimantan), while also serving as a hub for flights between Australia and Japan.

To mark its membership, Garuda Indonesia also repainted four of its aircraft to display the SkyTeam logo which operated to serve both domestic and international flights, which each one Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A330, Boeing 737-800NG, and Bombardier CRJ-1000 NextGen.
