COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Garuda Indonesia’s Community Development Program is the realization of the company’s commitment and awareness in improving social condition and developing the community through the following sectors:

  • Education, Training and Sport

    • Professional Programs in terms of Airline Business, Airport passenger Service and Flight Operation Officer

      In cooperation with Garuda Indonesia Training Center, Garuda Indonesia provides training for SMA/SMK graduates with superb achievements from underprivileged families in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi and Eastern Indonesia. The graduating students will be professionally ready and some of them will be recruited by Garuda Indonesia.

    • Empowering People with Down Syndrome through Job Training and Internship Program

      In partnership with Garuda Indonesia Training Center and the Foundation for Down Syndrome Children's Parents (POTADS), Garuda Indonesia provides internship opportunities for 4 (four) people with Down Syndrome. They join on-the-job training at the service and hospitality unit by accompanying Passengers Service Assistance (PSA) staffs who work in the premium check-in area for domestic and international departures. We hope that by giving the same opportunities to people with Down Syndrome as other employees, it will encourage them to become more productive, enthusiastic and confident to work within societies.

    • Becoming Indonesia Program

      In cooperation with Tempo and General Electric (GE), Garuda Indonesia has organized writing class and essay competition for college/university students. The objective is to help them grow the spirit of nationalism in them through writing.

    • Flying with Garuda Indonesia for Teachers Program and Quality Improvement Program for Teachers

      Flying with Garuda Indonesia for Teachers aim to provide more knowledge and information for teachers from Aceh, East Nusa Tenggara and Papua. One of them are Collaborative Training for Teachers in Surabaya and Aceh, with “Active Learning: Active Educational Methods Focusing on Students” as its theme. It is held in order to improve the teachers’ competence especially when implementing effective learning methods to maximize the students’ absorption on pertinent information.

    • School Renovation Program and Educational Facility Aid

      Garuda Indonesia has been making contributions to help renovate insufficient elementary schools (SD) in several areas throughout the country such as West Nusa Tenggara, Bali and Papua (Biak). In addition, the launch of 574,120 recycled notebooks for SD students in Manokwari, Biak, Pacitan, Bali, Pontianak and Jakarta. Garuda Indonesia has also provided teaching props, sport equipment and art tools.

    • Garuda Indonesia ‘s Commitment Towards Tennis – The “Garuda Indonesia Tennis Open”

      In line with the company’s commitment to promote sports in Indonesia and as a part of its Corporate Social Responsibilty (CSR) program, Garuda Indonesia continues to show its support and actively participates in the development of sports in the country.

      Garuda Indonesia shows its support by continuously supporting the development of tennis in Indonesia, sponsoring national sporting events, and supporting our athletes in their participation in international sporting events.

      The continuous support is mainly presented through The “Garuda Indonesia Tennis Open” tournament organized by the company every year which aimed at discovering local and international talents and helping them grow to become high achieving players in the international scene. This tournament serves as a spin-off of the “Garuda Indonesia Tennis Masters” which had been a regular fixture in the local tennis scene since 2008. 

      Through the “Garuda Indonesia Tennis Open”, Garuda Indonesia provides opportunity for international players to participate in the tournament which features 32 male players and 16 female players based on “International Tennis Federation” (ITF) and Peringkat Nasional PELTI (PNP) rankings – unlike previous tournaments which presented eight of the top national tennis players based on ITF and PNP rankings.

      For the first time ever, this year Garuda Indonesia will hold the “Garuda Indonesia Tennis Junior Masters” presenting eight of the best under-16 boys and eight of the best under-16 girls players from five of Indonesia’s biggest junior tournaments, namely “Tugu Muda”, “New Armada”, “Thamrin Cup”, “Widjojo Sudjono”, and  “Turnamen Tenis FIKS”. The event will give young players valuable opportunity to develop their skills and become professional tennis players and the pride of Indonesia.

      In addition to holding various tennis-related development activities, Garuda Indonesia also supported tennis players participating in international tournaments, such as “Davis Cup” held in Taiwan, Hongkong and Australia.  On top of that, the company offers opportunities for high-achieving tennis players to work at Garuda Indonesia Group.

  • Health

    • Awareness on Children with Cancer

      Garuda Indonesia has shown its caring awareness on children with cancer. Together with Yayasan Kanker Anak Indonesia (YKAKI), Garuda Indonesia has built a complete facility for the children with cancer called Rumah Kita in Jakarta. Garuda Indonesia and YKAKI provide doctors and midwives with early detection briefing at local clinics in Indonesia.

    • Garuda Indonesia Cares for Community Health Program

      In addition, Garuda Indonesia organize free medical treatment for the community in several areas throughout the country such as Padang, Biak (Papua), Manokwari (West Papua) and Kapuk Muara (Jakarta). The medical treatment consists of specialist, generic and dental services provided to approximately 3,850 residents. Specifically, Garuda Indonesia has been giving seminars on Dental health and HIV/AIDS prevention in Biak, Papua.

    • Distribution of Disability Equipment

      Garuda Indonesia has made contributions to the procurement of medical supports such as Braille wristwatches to blind people, wheelchairs for paralyzed people, hearing aids for deaf people and electric talking book for mute people in Jakarta. Garuda Indonesia has also provided prosthetics for people with osteo sarcoma.

    • Prevention of Cervical Cancer and HIV/AIDS Program

      The Company’s concern toward the high rate of Cervical Cancer & HIV-AIDS cases in Indonesia was relected in its partnership with Indonesian Cancer Foundation (ICF) in Garuda Indonesia for Cervical Cancer and HIV-AIDS Program to organize Prevention of Cervical Cancer, HIV & AIDS Program in Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands and Tarakan, North Kalimantan. This program comprised of Counseling program for Cervical Cancer, HIV & AIDS to residents of Tanjung Pinang (1,500 community health centers) and Tarakan (220 community health centers), Pap Smear & IVA Trainings for medical staffs consisting of 40 general practicioners and 40 midwives as well as Pap Smear & IVA service for the general public particularly 350 couples of reproductive age and reference assistance for 2 patients in each province who were diagnosed with cervical cancer and 20 patients who came up with positive results in IVA theraphy. The Company also donated 2 units of Cryotheraphy equipment to be stationed in YKI Tanjung Pinang, Riau Islands and Tarakan, North Kalimantan.

      Since 2013, other than Tanjung Pinang and Tarakan, Garuda and ICF has done similar programs in Jayapura, Ambon, Manado, and Jakarta. In 2017, Garuda and ICF will do more programs in Kupang and Palembang.

  • Infrastructures and Public Facilities as well as Religious Facilities

    In order to improve the insufficient infrastructures and public facilities, Garuda Indonesia has provided constructive supports. Garuda Indonesia has also help renovate religious facilities in several areas throughout the country such as NTB, Bali, West Sumatra, Banten, West Java and DKI Jakarta.

  • Natural Disasters

    Garuda Indonesia has shown that it cares about people living in areas affected by natural disasters across the country through the physical supports such as clothes, food and medical help.

    In addition, Garuda Indonesia has also helped victims in foreign countries, such as people affected by earthquake and tsunami in Japan, 2011. Garuda Indonesia helped transported daily needs such as primary and supplementary food, blankets and bottled water using its free cargo. Apart from that, Garuda Indonesia also transported batteries from Panasonic to Japan for people in areas with electricity crisis.
