Harajuku

This area is located around the Harajuku station, Tokyo, between Shinjuku and Shibuya on the Yamanote Line. Here is where you can see teenagers to adults in eccentric fashion, and some to the extremes like the ones featured in magazines’ quirky sections. In addition to being a shopping haven, Harajuku also offers a historical tour of temples and museums. You can visit the Meiji Jingu shrine, see the beautiful Ukiyo-e painting at the Ota Memorial Museum of Art, get close to amazing artworks from across Asia, and visit a traditional Japanese garden at the Nezu Museum.

  1. MoMA Design Store
MoMA Design Store is the first store of the New York Museum of Modern Art that is opened outside of the United States. Situated at the 3rd floor of the Omotesando building, this museum displays thousands of artworks as permanent collection, as well as more than 1,800 items exclusively sold by MoMA. If you still have enough budget, this is the right place to get edgy birthday and christmas presents, from kids’ toys, fashion accessories, to artsy kitchen utensils.

  3. A Harajuku Makeover
Known for its fashion, Harajuku has an array of fashion boutiques catering to all sorts of style, from punk, Lolita, to the one Lady Gaga is into. If you’re looking for something on the casual side, you can visit Basement Boutique Dog that was founded by Kai Satake in 2000, and followed by the Koenji outlet in 2009. The entrance to this store is a bit dark with graffitis on the wall and displays that can be your style reference. To sport a Lolita style, you can drop by at the Milk boutique that offers several laced attire and other accessories.
