TRAVELING WITH CHILD & INFANT

Infants under 2 years old are accepted for travel under the following conditions:

  • The infant must be accompanied by a passenger who paid the adult fare.
  • The passenger is traveling on the same flight, in the same class, and to the same destination as the infant.
  • One infant must be accompanied by one adult passenger who is willing and capable to take full responsibility over the infant.

 

  • Infants under 48 hours old after birth is not accepted for air travel
  • Babies under 7 days old:
    • Can be accepted
    • Medical clearance (MEDIF) is required
  • Babies between 7 days - 2 years old:
    • Can be accepted
    • Medical clearance (MEDIF) not required
  • Premature babies can be accepted and will be considered as MEDA (Medical Cases) and handled as incapacitated passenger.

Note:
*) If an infant is appeared to be unhealthy during check-in, MEDIF and approval from Garuda Sentra Medika (GSM) will be required.
**) Must be obtained and approved by Garuda Sentra Medika (GSM) prior to date of travel.

An infant is allowed to occupy a seat provided that:

  • A separate passenger seat is purchased for the infant occupying the seat.
  • The infant occupying a seat is accompanied by a parent / legal guardian, occupying an adjacent passenger seat.
  • The infant is at least 6 months old or above.
  • The infant seat must be equipped with Car Safety Seat or CARES, provided by the parent / legal guardian prior to occupation by the infant. (Garuda Indonesia will not provide car safety seat or child restraint system/CRS).
  • Parent/ legal guardian complete and sign Form of Indemnity (FOI) for Infant with Seat. FOI can collect in the check-in counter.

The infant Car Safety Seat to be taken on board is required to have the following characteristics:

  • The car safety seat is designed for carrying an infant/child who has reached 6 months of age but is under 3 years old
  • It is forward-facing
  • It is in operational condition
  • It has a well-defined shell (e.g. a plastic frame), and if there is a separate shell and understructure, they must be securely attached to each other
  • It is designed for easy and quick securing and removing of a child
  • It has a single-release-type harness that secures a child’s lap, torso and shoulders, and designed to prevent easy release by the child occupying the seat
  • It has harness straps that have a minimum width of 1” (25 mm)
  • Any adjusters on the harness straps that are lift-type must be designed to release only when it is lifted to a positive angle, to prevent the child from easily adjusting and loosening the harness straps.


Installation requirements of the infant/child car safety seat:

  • The car safety seat must be secured to a passenger seat throughout the flight
  • The buckle of an adult safety belt must completely tight after attached to the car safety seat.
  • The car safety seat must sit securely on a passenger seat -- whether its lower part is a shell or understructure, it must not extend unreasonably beyond the passenger seat.
  • Due to safety requirements, car safety seats may not be used on some of our aircraft passenger seats.
  • The CARES harness is to be provided by the parent/guardian of the infant.
  • CARES harness can only be used by an infant/child passenger who is able to sit upright unsupported on a forward-facing seat and is not taller than 1 meter (40 in) and weights no more than 10 to 20 kg (22 to 44 lbs).
  • Correct use of CARES harness on board is solely the responsibility of the accompanied parent / travelling companion. The parent / travelling companion is responsible for ensuring that:
    • The infant/child passenger does not exceed the weight or height limit.
    • The CARES harness functions normally.
    • The CARES harness is properly installed on the aircraft seat, as per manufacturer’s instructions.
    • The infant/child passenger is secured on the seat, as per manufacturer’s instructions.
  • The CARES harness must have the correct FAA label attached and will be checked by Garuda’s ground staff.
  • Parent/ guardian must inform reservations staff during booking, and ground staff during check-In that you wish to use the CARES harness to secure their infant/child.
  • CARES harness can only be used on Economy Class seats in all available aircraft, without an airbag seat belt.
  • CARES harness is not to be used or installed on seats in exit rows.
  • If the infant is carried on the parent’s / travelling companion’s lap, CARES harness must not be used. Passenger will be provided with an Infant Belt for use.

Baby Bassinet is available on Garuda Indonesia selected aircraft and its free of charge. Passenger must be requested well in advance via Garuda Call Center. Due to limited numbers of baby bassinet available on each aircraft, baby bassinet service is based on first come first serve. Passenger will inform by check-in staff regarding the limited numbers of bassinet. Maximum weight of infant that can be accommodated in one bassinet is 9 kg.

Passenger may take Travel Sleeping Device as carry-on baggage into the passenger cabin, which may be carried as free carry-on baggage.

Garuda accepts travel sleeping limited only Bed Box and Inflatable Box. Hammock or similar with is not allowed.

The general conditions Travel Sleeping Device in passenger cabin are as follow:

  • Travel sleeping device can only be used by children who traveling using economy class.
  • Travel sleeping device will be counted and treated as cabin baggage.
  • Weight and dimension of travel sleeping device must follow cabin baggage standard and must be able to be stowed under the passenger seat.
  • It is not allowed to inflate the device during taxi, take-off and landing. The inflation may be performed after take-off and seatbelt sign is off. Inflation device for travel sleeping device which use battery should meet lithium battery regulation.
  • The device may only be used in window seat.
  • The device cannot be combined to occupy several seat
  • Does not interfere/disturb another passenger
  • Seat belt is used and fastened at all time under his/her arm when using the device

Regulations regarding permitted ASI (breast milk) in cabin baggage refer to regulations regarding liquids, applicable to international flight passengers departing from all airports in Indonesia. You are advised to pack your cabin baggage in such a way as to avoid inconvenience during the trip. Here are some special rules regarding liquids:

  • Liquids, aerosols and gels will only be allowed in cabin baggage if they are kept in containers with volumes of not more than 100 ml each.
  • These containers must be carried in a clear, re-sealable plastic bag. The total volume of the bag must not exceed 1 liter.
  • Each person is allowed to carry only one such plastic bag.
  • The bag must be removed from cabin baggage and presented to security personnel for x-ray screening.
