Ubud

As the centre of arts and culture in Bali, over the years Ubud has grown into one of the most favorite for both local and international tourists with various things to do.

Known for its rice terraces and cultural charm, Ubud offers serenity and tranquility that other bustling areas in Bali no longer serve.

Spare one hour to drive from Ngurah Rai airport and you will arrive in Ubud and find the best selections of antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings and jewelry as well as internationally-acclaimed art museums and galleries.

  1. Bike Ride to Rice Terraces
Ubud’s refreshing breeze and serene surroundings make for the perfect setting for an afternoon bike ride around and experience Ubud like a local. For as little as IDR 15,000, a bicycle is for you to use the whole day. Campuhan Hill is the perfect destination to ride to as it is perfectly represents the majestic nature of Ubud and nearby the city centre. It is recommended to take the ride after 4 PM to avoid heat stroke and explore other things to do in Ubud beforehand.

  2. Blanco Renaissance Museum
A stop at this legendary museum that was built by famous Spanish painter Don Antonio Blanco and his family is surely on the top of things to do in Bali. Arrived in Bali for the first time in the 1950’s, Blanco fell in love instantly with the island and the people. In fact, he married Balinese dancer Ni Rondji in 1953 and decided to stay in Bali ever since. A lifelong dream come true when he received some area of the land from the King of Ubud where he built his studio that later became the museum. Sadly, Blanco passed away not long before the place opens for public in 1999. The place was designed according to his eccentric and flamboyant personality that acts like a special tribute to women’s physical features. To enjoy the unparalleled artworks with welcome drinks and a visit to the family’s private park where they keep prized exotic birds, IDR 30,000/50,000 (for international visitors) is a good bargain. Visit http://www.blancomuseum.com/ to learn more about the place.

  3. Tegenungan Waterfalls
Situated around 5 kilometers southeast Ubud, Tegenungan Waterfalls is one of the must see in Bali. Even though there are many scenic waterfalls in the island, this one especially has become the most visited by both local and international visitors, as for its easy access by car and cheap fare (IDR 10,000). It only takes a little walk along the steep stairs to picture perfect and refreshing waterfall. Don’t forget to bring your swimwear should you want to experience swimming or jumping into the waterfall!

  4. Coffee Tasting at Bali Pulina
Bali Pulina, one of the most interesting things to do in Bali, is located in the quiet and calm part of Ubud, around 12 kilometers away from the center area. This agro tourism site features a coffee plantation that allows visitors to see the complete process of Kopi Luwak making, as well as various traditional fruits and spices plantation. Visitors may choose to take the coffee plantation tour and will be guided by experts. Afterwards, visitors will be brought to the grand finale of the tour - the coffee tasting where they will be presented with eight cups of different kinds of warm beverages ranging from ginger tea, ginseng coffee, chocolate coffee, pure chocolate, to vanilla coffee and traditional Bali Coffee while seated on quaint semi-outdoor café that overlooks majestic view of the rice terraces. A cup of original Kopi Luwak is available for IDR 50,000, a very reasonable price for quality coffee to be sipped with breathtaking view of Ubud. Even non-coffee drinkers would find this place delightful.
