GARUDA INDONESIA OPENS DENPASAR – DILI VV. SERVICE

Following the signing of a memorandum of understanding for a commercial collaboration with Air Timor last month, Garuda Indonesia, on Friday (23/10) officially opened the Denpasar – Dili vv. Service.

The reopening of the Denpasar – Dili route is part of Garuda Indonesia’s and Air Timor’s commitment to broaden flight network in Indonesia and Timor Leste. The flight also aims to accommodate passengers’ demands as economic and trade between the two countries continue to steadily increase.   

Participating on the Garuda Indonesia inaugural flight from Denpasar – Dili was Timor Leste’s Minister of Transportation and Communication, Pedro Lay, Timor Leste Minister of Tourism, Francisco Kalbuadi Lay, Garuda Indonesia President Commissioner, Bambang Susantono, Ambassador of Portugal for Indonesia, H.E. Mr.  Joaquim Moreira de Lemos, Chairman of Indonesian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Suryo Bambang Sulisto and Garuda Indonesia President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar and Chairman Board of Director, Air Timor, Olgario De Castro.  .

The Denpasar  - Dili route is served daily by (GA7300)  leaving for Denpasar at 07.30 WITA and arriving in Dili at 10.20 LT. On the return flight, GA7310 departs from Dili at 11.25 LT and arrives in Denpasar at 12.15 WITA. The Denpasar – Dili vv.operates B737-500 with a capacity of 96 seats, comprising 12 seats in business class and 84 seats in economy class.

Garuda Indonesia President & CEO, Emirsyah Satar said that in addition to strengthening Garuda Indonesia’s flight network, the Denpasar - Dili vv service will support increased passenger traffic between the two countries. Furthermore, it is in line with the airline’s efforts to support the government’s program to improve bilateral relations between Indonesia and Timor Leste.

“Timor Leste has strong historical ties with Garuda Indonesia and Garuda had served Dili in the 1990s. Garuda Indonesia also took part in the construction of Timor Leste’s iconic statue, the Cristo Rei in Dili. I hope that the opening of this Denpasar – Dili will serve to enhance relations between the two countries in the aspects of of economy, tourism, social and culture”. Added Emirsyah Satar.

Meanwhile, Chairman Board of Director Air Timor, Olgario De Castro was delighted with the Garuda Indonesia and Timor Leste cooperation. “The opening of this flight route enables the people of Timor Leste to travel for business and leisure to Indonesia and anywhere else in the world via Bali, which has an extensive domestic and international flight network. Likewise, Indonesians and international travelers can easily travel to Timor Leste whether for business or leisure,” said Olgario De Castro.

As part of the implementation of its strategic expansion program and to become a “global player”, Garuda Indonesia continues to develop its network internationally. The expansion includes the opening of Jakarta - London via Amsterdam (vv) flight service on September 2014. London serves as the airline’s second gateway in the region after Amsterdam. By launching the five times weekly service to London, Garuda Indonesia is now able to provide the first direct link between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.

Garuda Indonesia joined SkyTeam global alliance in 5th March 2014 as its 20th international member, and second Southeast Asia member. By becoming the member of the alliance, Garuda Indonesia is now able to provide its customers access to the alliance’s 1,052 destinations in 177 countries, covering over 90% of the most relevant traffic flows in the world, and 516 lounges worldwide.

As Garuda Indonesia strives to continue its business transformation program, the airline’s performance is increasingly being recognized at international level. Garuda Indonesia proceeded to receive a new coveted accolade as airline with “The World’s Best Cabin Crew 2014” from Skytrax at the Farnborough International Airshow 2014, on July 2014. Garuda Indonesia now also sits at 7th in the list of “The World’s Top 10 Airlines” by Skytrax.

Garuda Indonesia has also been entitled as the best airline in region Asia and Australia by Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) for two consecutive years. The airline was named a winner of the “2014 Passenger Choice Awards” and “2013 Passenger Choice Award” in the category of Best Airline in Region: Asia and Australasia. Previously, Garuda Indonesia was also awarded "The World's Best Regional Airline" at the Farnborough International Airshow 2012 and “The World’s Best Economy Class” at the Paris Airshow 2013.

Currently, Garuda Indonesia Group operates up to 150 fleet, consisting of Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A330-200/300, Boeing 737-800NG, Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGen, and ATR72-600, with an average of 5 years old.
