Monas / The National Monument

The National Monument, or known as Monas has been the symbol of Jakarta since its completion in 1961 under President Soekarno’s administration. Up until now, tourists from all over the country and the world come to Monas and the areas around it for a better glimpse of the capital city.

  1. Enjoying Jakarta’s View
A trip to Monas certainly will not be complete without getting to the top of the monument! Visitors can take an elevator and get to the top of to see an epic 360-degree view of Jakarta’s skyline from more than 100 meters high.

  2. Visiting Indonesia’s History’s Underground Museum
For visitors that want to really learn about Indonesia’s fascinating history in a different way, visiting this underground museum can be an interesting choice. Situated about 4 meters under Monas, the museum tells Indonesia’s history from the prehistoric era to the Indonesian independence in 1945 through an extensive series of dioramas.

  3. Picnic at Monas’ Park
Going for a picnic in Monas’ well-groomed park could be a good choice for a day-out with the whole family! In this park you can enjoy the afternoon breeze accompanied by various street foods Jakarta has to offer. Lucky enough and you might get to interact with some of the domesticated deer that are roaming freely around the park.
