BAGGAGE

General Baggage Rules

Baggage admitted for carriage as passenger’s baggage may only contain such articles, effects or other property of passengers as are necessary for wear, use comfort, or convenience, in connection with the trip. Carriers have the right (except for diplomatic bags) but not the obligation to verify, in the presence of the passengers, the contents of their baggage

Garuda Indonesia is not responsible for any minor damage (such as dents or lost accessories) or scratches during the carriage of baggage.

  1. Checked Baggage

Checked baggage (also called registered baggage) comprises articles which are weighed and carried in the baggage or cargo compartment of the aircraft. They are not accessible to the passengers during the flight. These articles are labelled with special baggage tags showing the station of arrival and a serial number. A portion of this tag is attached to the passenger’s boarding pass for identification purposes only and must, as a rule, be surrendered at the station of arrival.

Every passenger of Garuda Indonesia may have different free checked baggage allowance according to their own respective tickets. Furthermore, Garuda Indonesia has imposed a strict rule to ensure that every single piece of item or baggage checked-in does not exceed 70 lbs/32 kg.

  • Checked Baggage Allowance for Passengers Travelling Together

When two or more passengers in one booking code travelling as one party to a common destination point or point of stopover via the same flight, present themselves and their baggage for travelling at the same time and place, they will be permitted a total free baggage allowance equal to the combination of their individual free baggage allowance. Note: 1 “Checked baggage” includes carry-on bags checked at the gate or planeside; 2 TSA security rules prohibit some power tools in carry-on baggage; 3 Watt hours (Wh) = Volts (V) x Amp hour (Ah) or for milliamp hours Wh =V x (mAh / 1000)
  • Rechargable battery packs, e.g. power banks, are treated as spare lithium batteries. The carriage of these items are subject to local regulations.
  • Spare lithium batteries are NOT allowed in checked baggage. They MUST be carried as carry-on baggage only.
  • Never carry damaged or recalled batteries or equipment on aircraft.
  • Spare batteries should be in original manufactures packaging. If not, to protect it from damage or short circuit, you should tape across the battery’s metal parts (terminal) or place each battery in its own protective case or plastic bag.
  • Batteries must be installed in the equipment when checked-in.
  • Any battery-powered devices MUST be packaged to prevent inadvertent activation.

*) There is no limit to the number of batteries or devise carried for personal use unless specified above.

Make sure to check your power bank battery capacity and declare it to the airline before you get on-board. According to our flight safety regulations, power banks are only allowed in carry-on baggage and not allowed in checked luggage.

Only power banks with a maximum capacity of 100 Wh are allowed in our cabin area. Power banks with capacities of 100 to 160Wh are also allowed on-board but subject to airline approval. Your power banks must have a clear cell capacity label to be allowed in carry-on luggage.

During your flight, using power banks is strictly prohibited.

Below are the list of limitations on power banks capacity allowed:

Maximum Allowable Quantity per Passenger Watt-hour (Wh) Cell Voltage (V) Miliampere-hour (mAh) Remarks
20 pcs 0 – 100 5 V 0 – 20.000 -
3,7 V 0 – 27.000
3,2 V 0 – 31.000
2 pcs 101 – 160 5 V 20.001 – 32.000 With Garuda Indonesia approval
3,7 V 27.001 – 43.000
3,2 V 31.001 – 50.000
NOT ALLOWED > 160 5 V > 32.000 -
3,7 V > 43.000
3,2 V > 50.000
  • If cell voltage capacity of the power bank is different from the cell voltage capacity as stated in the table above (other than 3,2 V; 3,7 V; 5 V), obtain the watt-hour capacity by calculating using the watt-hour formula (watt hours = cell voltage x mAh/1000)
  • The watt-hour capacity must always be the primary reference in determining whether the power banks is allowed to be carried or not.
