GARUDA INDONESIA EXTENDS PRESENCE IN EUROPE WITH THE NEW SERVICE TO LONDON

Garuda Indonesia, the airline of Indonesia, further extends its presence in Europe by launching the new service from Jakarta to London via Amsterdam today (8/9), as part of the airline's transformation program “the Quantum Leap 2011-2015”. London serves as the airline’s second gateway in the region after Amsterdam. By launching the five times weekly service to London, Garuda Indonesia is now able to provide the first direct link between Indonesia and the United Kingdom.  

Executive Vice President Marketing and Sales of Garuda Indonesia Mr. Erik Meijer commented, “We are very pleased to be able to add London to our extensive global network. There are strong business, educational and cultural ties between Indonesia and The United Kingdom, and we believe this new service will further boost those activities amongst two countries, whilst offering easier access for travelers from UK to Indonesia, which now is one of the fastest economic growth center in the world.” 

Garuda Indonesia operates its service to the capital city of England connected to the Jakarta – Amsterdam non-stop flight. Therefore, starting today the Jakarta – Amsterdam – Jakarta flight changed to become Jakarta – Amsterdam – London – Amsterdam – Jakarta. The adjustment provides added convenience for the many Indonesians who wish to visit multiple cities in Europe during their trip. 

The schedule for Jakarta – Amsterdam – London is as follows (all times local):  

The new service will be operated by the state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300ER aircraft capable of carrying 314 passengers, in a three-class cabin configuration featuring its globally praised First Class, brand new business class service concept, and the world's best economy class (Skytrax Global Airline Awards 2013).    The fleet is equipped with “Inflight Connectivity” facilities, including “WiFi Onboard” and “Live TV” services for passengers in all classes and a “chef on board” for “First Class” passengers. The “Inflight Connectivity” facilities enable passengers to remain connected to the internet and continue their business activities during the flight or simply access their favorite entertainment, such as live soccer games via the sports channel, and many other entertainment options. 

Following its entrance into the SkyTeam global airline alliance on March 2014, Garuda has decided to make Amsterdam, The Netherlands, its hub for Europe and beyond. In order to make this hub effective and most convenient for its customers, the airline started flying direct and non-stop between Jakarta and Amsterdam on last 30 May 2014.   This product is the first-ever commercial non-stop flight between Indonesia and Europe (The Netherlands) and is sure to be the most convenient and comfortable way for anyone flying between the two countries. The new service will shorten passengers’ travel time from Jakarta to Europe and vice versa to less than 14 hours, whilst also providing the quickest connection not only between Indonesia and Europe but also the Southeast Asia region and Europe. 

The inauguration of Jakarta – London service via Amsterdam is in line with the airline’s effort to offer seamless connectivity on either end to over 65 destinations in Indonesia and Australasia as well as all major destinations is Europe and beyond through the combined extensive networks of Garuda Indonesia and the SkyTeam Global Alliance member airlines. 

Garuda Indonesia joined SkyTeam global alliance as its 20th international member, and second Southeast Asia member. By becoming the member of the alliance, Garuda Indonesia is now able to provide its customers access to the alliance’s 1,052 destinations in 177 countries, covering over 90% of the most relevant traffic flows in the world, and 516 lounges worldwide. 

As Garuda Indonesia strives to continue its business transformation program, the airline’s performance is increasingly being recognized at international level. Garuda Indonesia proceeded to receive a new coveted accolade as airline with “The World’s Best Cabin Crew 2014” from Skytrax at the Farnborough International Airshow 2014, on July 2014. Garuda Indonesia now also sits at 7th in the list of “The World’s Top 10 Airlines” by Skytrax. 

Previously, Garuda Indonesia was also awarded "The World's Best Regional Airline" at the Farnborough International Airshow 2012 and “The World’s Best Economy Class” at the Paris Airshow 2013. During the “Passenger Choice Award 2013” held in September 2013 in Anaheim, California, USA, and organized by “Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX)”, Garuda Indonesia was chosen as the “Best in Region: Asia and Australasia”.
