GARUDA INDONESIA RUNS MITIGATION PROCEDURE FOLLOWING FAA CANIC REPORT ON B737-800 NG AIRCRAFT

Jakarta, October 15th 2019 - Due to the announcement from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) related to Continued Airworthiness Notification to the International Community (CANIC) regarding advise to check B737-800 NG aircraft, therefore Garuda Indonesia has ran the inspection procedure and comprehensive investigation towards B737-800NG operated fleet which has reach 30,000 flight cycle.

VP Corporate Secretary Garuda Indonesia, M. Ikhsan Rosan stated that “Garuda Indonesia has conducted inspection on several aircrafts which has reached 30,000 flight cycle. Meanwhile, the majority of Boeing NG series which operated by Garuda Indonesia are relatively new aircraft, so there are not many aircrafts which have reached the flight cycle.

“There are three units of our Boeing NG that has reached 30,000 flight cycle. Based on our inspection result, one of them found cracks in aircraft pickle forks and the aircraft (B737-800NG) has been grounded since October, 5th 2019”.

“Moreover, Garuda Indonesia is currently conducting further inspection for these findings along with Boeing.co as the aircraft manufacturer”, Ikhsan explained.

“On the other side, we also intensively coordination with the Directorate of Airworthiness and Aircraft Operation (DKPPU) of the Ministry of Transportation in following up on the FAA report by continuing to prioritize flight safety aspects in accordance with the applicable regulations”, concluded Ikhsan.
