GARUDA INDONESIA ATTAINS THE SECOND TIME AS “5-STAR AIRLINE”

Singapore, 17 February 2016 – Taken place in the Asia’s largest aerospace and defence event, Singapore Airshow 2016, the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, today (17/02) was announced as “5-Star Airline” for the two consecutive years by Skytrax, a London-based, independent global airline rating agency. This attainment as “5-Star Airline” is the second time, in which the first one was in last 2014.

The second “5-Star Airline Certificate” was presented by CEO of Skytrax Edward Plaisted to President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia Muhammad Arif Wibowo, witnessed by Indonesian Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, Indonesian Ambassador for Singapore I Gusti Ngurah Swajayam and President Commissioner of Garuda Indonesia Jusman Syafii Djamal, in the Function Room 5 Changi Exhibition Center.

Commenting on this honor, Indonesian Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno expressed her high appreciation for the hard work of Garuda Indonesia management and all employee on its success in maintaining the predicate as “5-Star Airline”.

“We believe that this attainment of Garuda Indonesia as “5-Star Airline” for two consecutive years, would not only aiming to strengthen Garuda Indonesia as a global brand, but also to support the “Nation Branding” as Indonesian government’s strategic program” Rini added.

As the national flag carrier, Rini added, Garuda Indonesia has succesfully presented this achievement to the Nation. This achievement also brought a bigger challenge for Garuda Indonesia to continuously escalate the good work as well as to deliver the best service to all customers.

Further, she added that the global achievement should be followed by better financial result. At the moment, Rini also extended her appreciation for Garuda Indonesia’s result of 2015 which gained up to USD 77,9 net profit.

President & CEO Garuda Indonesia, M. Arif Wibowo, delightly expressed that this achievement reflects the hard work and deep commitment from both management and all employee of Garuda Indonesia in continuously deliver the best effort to maintain and improve company’s performance in all business aspects.

“This achievement marks an important milestone for Garuda Indonesia in the beginning of year 2016, as well as being a bigger challenge for everybody in Garuda Indonesia to constantly improve the performance and deliver service excellence to all customer” Arif said.

The “5-Star Airline” certification was conducted through “Skytrax Audit” with comprehensive scoring points covering all service aspects; pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight such as ground handling service, lounge, seat and cabin comfort, inflight meal and inflight entertainment.

CEO of Skytrax, Edward Plaisted said that the “5-Star Airline Certificate” awarded to Garuda Indonesia for two years is a pay-off for the company to consistently keeping the service standard.

“In global competition airline industry, Garuda Indonesia proved to the world that they can survive and even perform the best value and service standard. The consistency of product and service quality is the biggest and most important point in 5-Star certification audit, and we prodly pronounced that Garuda Indonesia’s aircrafts are offering various classes that meet the requirement as 5-Star Airline” Edward added.

Spurred on by a strong commitment from the management and employees of Garuda Indonesia to deliver the best service, Garuda Indonesia’s performance continues to earn global recognition. In 2013, Skytrax awarded Garuda Indonesia as ““The World’s Best Economy Class”, continued in 2014’s recognition for first time as “The World’s Best Cabin Crew”, “5-Star Airline”, and the 7th Rank in “The World’s Best Airlines”.

In 2015, right in the event Paris Airshow 2015, Garuda Indonesia was once again announced as “The World’s Best Cabin Crew”. “The World’s Best Cabin Crew” award was given to Garuda Indonesia based on a global customer satisfaction survey" conducted by Skytrax of more than 18 million passengers. The survey, which covers 245 international airlines, is held every year and measures standards across 41 key performance indicators of airline products and services.

As part of the fleet revitalization program, throughout 2016, the Garuda Indonesia Group will receive 16 new aircraft in total; 1 Boeing 777-300ER, 4 Airbus A330-300, 4 ATR72-600, and also 8 Airbus A320 to be operated by Citilink. By the end of 2016, Garuda Indonesia Group will operate a total of 188 aircraft; 144 aircraft for Garuda Indonesia and 44 aircraft for Citilink.

To continue its positive growth reached by the “Quick Wins” program in 2015, in 2016 Garuda Indonesia is to execute a “Sky Beyond” strategy for short-term company expansion program, which is focused on three ‘core strategies’ as in company group synergy, effectiveness and efficiency, and service enhancement to accelerate company achievement and performance.

As a part of the company synergy, for the very first time Garuda Indonesia Group join Singapore Airshow 2016, the Asia’s largest aerospace and defence event. In the ninth participation, this year is the first participation as Garuda Indonesia Group.

The presence of Garuda Indonesia Group in Singapore Airshow 2016 is a group synergy’s strategy to develop the brand image which expected to elaborate the potential business, to enhance the business relation with stakeholders, and to boost up the awareness to Garuda Indonesia Group’s strategic role as Indonesia’s Ambassador to the world.

In the Singapore Airshow 2016, Garuda Indonesia Group – through Garuda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia – looks to several short-term and long-term business contract with value targeted up to USD 100 millions.

Garuda Indonesia currently has 6 subsidiaries with diverse business sectors; Garuda Maintenance Facility AeroAsia, specialized in integrated aircraft maintenance, including engine and aircraft components repair service; Citilink, a low cost carrier (LCC) airline projected for budget traveller; Aerowisata, specialized in hospitality, transportation, catering and travel agent service; Gapura, specialized in ground handling service, supoorted by cargo and warehousing service; Asyst, specialized in IT and consultation service; and Abacus – which now has transformed to Sabre Travel Network Indonesia – specialized in technology provider service for global travel and tourism.
