Jakarta, April 8th 2021 - The national airline PT Garuda Indonesia Tbk. operates humanitarian flights to transport humanitarian aid to people affected by flash floods in a number of areas of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday (07/04).
This humanitarian flight flew from Makassar at 04.30 WITA and arrived in Kupang at 07.00 WITA by using the type of aircraft ATR 72-600. The flight has carried aid items for every flood victims such as food supplies, medicines, and clothes that has been supported by several of Indonesian State Owned Enterprises and volunteers. In addition, the flight also delivered humanitarian officers who will be in charge of accelerating disaster management from the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) and other relevant stakeholders.
The aircraft ATR 72-600 will also distribute the aid items and support the mobility of the humanitarian officers in several disaster locations specially in the border area such as Lembata, Alor, Larantuka and Atambua.
The President and CEO of Garuda Indonesia Irfan Setiaputra said that, “We extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to all communities affected by this natural disaster. Garuda Indonesia as the national flag carrier will continue to optimize its role in supporting community accessibility and logistics networks, especially to meet the needs of people affected by the disaster”.
“We understand that the distribution of humanitarian aid in the midst of this difficult situation is a crucial factor in term of optimization the accelerated disaster management. Therefore, we hope through this humanitarian flight operations, it would be one of our contributions to ensure all of the victims’ needs well fulfilled”, added Irfan.
Meanwhile, Nusa Tenggara Governor Viktor Bungtilu Laiskodat expressed his appreciation to Garuda Indonesia for the initiative to support the distribution process of logistic needs, including the mobility of volunteers and humanitarian personnel.
"Conditions in the NTT region after the flash flood disaster certainly require transportation support that is able to go to these locations in a shorter time", he said.
"So that through the operation of humanitarian flights from Garuda Indonesia, we hope that the disaster management process can run faster and logistics distribution can be carried out optimally", he continued.
Meantime, due to the humanitarian flight operations in several area of NTT, Garuda Indonesia with all the subsidiaries has been coordinating intensively to ensure all the flights operational running smoothly.
