Garuda Indonesia picks up two awards for the second year running
Indonesia’s national airline, Garuda Indonesia, has added two more awards to its trophy cabinet, picking up a gold medal for ‘Best First Class Sparkling Wine’ and bronze for ‘Best First Class White’ at the Business Traveller “Cellars in the Sky” Awards 2015 (22 February, 2016).
Held at the Hilton Hotel Bankside, London, the awards recognise the best business and first class wines served by airlines worldwide. Hosted by head judge Charles Metcalfe, co-chairman of the International Wine Challenge, 35 airlines were vying for one or more of the prestigious accolades at the 30th annual airline wine awards.
Garuda Indonesia’s VP In-Flight Services, Mr Vindex Tengker collected the gold medal for its Champagne Billecart-Salmon Cuvée Nicolas François Billecart 1999, France and bronze medal for its Vasse Felix Chardonnay Margaret River 2013, Australia.
Commenting on the awards, Mr Tengker said: “We are delighted to receive another two awards, with the gold medal being the crowning glory this year, and adding to our collection from last year’s awards. It is a great achievement for Garuda Indonesia as we continue to pay great attention to detail to ensure we make flying an all-round first-class experience.
“Positive recognition is the highest accolade an airline could hope to achieve, and the judges’ comments that our wine is ‘deliciously mature and complex with a wonderfully evolved toasty palate’ is testament to our commitment to providing the best for our customers.”
Amongst the guests at the Hilton London Bankside was the Ambassador of Indonesia H. E. Dr. Rizal Sukma, Garuda Indonesia UK Country Manager Mr Jubi Prasetyo and Garuda Indonesia Director of Services Mr Nicodemus Lampe.
