GARUDA INDONESIA BAN SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 7 MOBILE PHONES ON ALL ITS FLIGHTS

Cengkareng, 17 Oktober 2016 – Following the recent U.S. Department of Transportation’s ban on all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 mobile phones, including recalled and replacement devices, Garuda Indonesia announced that the airline is no longer allow the devices on any of its flights from today due to safety issues.

VP Corporate Communications Garuda Indonesia Benny S. Butarbutar said that individuals who own or possess a Samsung Galaxy Note 7 device may not transport the device on their person, in carry-on baggage, or in checked baggage on any of Garuda Indonesia’s flights. The phones also cannot be shipped as air cargo.  Any guests found with the device will be denied boarding.

He emphasized, “The safety and security of the passengers and crew is a priority and is of utmost importance for Garuda Indonesia. As advised by various aviation regulatory bodies, all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices are prohibited from being brought on board all our flights on person, in carry-on baggage, checked in baggage, or as cargo with effect from 17 October 2016, 0000 hrs Jakarta Time.”

He added that Garuda Indonesia has also briefed every concerned departments in the airline to inform all passengers regarding this new development. “We are also constantly monitoring the situation and will continuously provide updates on this matter. We wish our customers’ kind understanding and apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
