Flights from and to Lombok closed until tomorrow, Sunday (08/11)
Jakarta, November 7, 2015 - Garuda Indonesia remain cancelled flights to and from Lombok, following the announcement of "Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) No. B2715 / 15" by the authority of local airport which states Lombok International Airport extended its closure until tomorrow, Sunday (08 / 11) due to the impact of the eruption of Mount Rinjani, Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
Vice President Corporate Communications Garuda Indonesia, Benny S. Butar Butar said all Garuda Indonesia flights to and from Lombok still cannot operate, refer to NOTAM from the airport authority about the extended period of airport closure of Lombok International Airport until tomorrow, Sunday, (08/11).
"Until now, Mount Rinjani is still issuing volcanic ash, volcanic dust and the movement direction is still not stable between to the south or west," said Benny in Jakarta on Saturday.
"Despite the status of Mount Rinjani, since Thursday night (05/11) until today, Saturday (07/11), Garuda Indonesia flights to and from Denpasar and Banyuwangi has been operating normally. There are as many as 31 Garuda Indonesia flights has been operating normally , following the re-opening of the Ngurah Rai Airport and the Blimbingsari Airport service," added Benny.
Although Ngurah Rai International Airport and Blimbingsari Airport had announced re-opened, Garuda Indonesia will keep monitoring the situation and will continuously observe for any updates on the activity of Mt. Barujari near Mt. Rinjani, especially considering that Lombok International Airport is still closed until tomorrow, Sunday (8/11) due to Mt.Rinjani situation.
Previously, since the closure of some airport service by the consequences of the eruption of Mount Rinjani on Tuesday (03/11) and then up until today, Saturday (07/11), Garuda Indonesia had canceled 279 flights to and from Denpasar, Banyuwangi and Lombok.
All Garuda Indonesia flights through Lombok will re-operate as soon as announced safe to operate by the authority. Considering the current situation, Garuda Indonesia highly recommends all passengers not to come to Lombok International Airport until further announcement
