GARUDA INDONESIA TO OPTIMIZE VIRTUAL REALITY (VR) EXPERIENCE WITH CABIN ANNOUNCEMENT INTEGRATION

Jakarta, April 4th 2019 – The national airline of Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia announces the latest innovation in improving In-flight Entertainment (IFE) services through the first In-flight Virtual Reality (VR) Experience launch in the Asia Pacific which is presented as inflight entertainment facility for a business class passenger.

CEO of Garuda Indonesia Ari Askhara revealed, “Through this VR facility, passengers could watch a variety of box office films on Garuda Indonesia flights, with the sensation of watching in a wide angle screen 180/360 degrees”.

The VR Experience facility makes Garuda Indonesia as the only one airline in the Asia Pacific which has successfully received a safety regulation approval in the world aviation regulations.

“In line with the excellent response of the VR Experience feature, Garuda Indonesia continues to expand the facility trial period on several domestic and international flight routes, such as; Jakarta – Manado flight route in January – February, Jakarta – Denpasar flight route in February – March, and Jakarta – Singapore flight routes in March 2019”.

“We also introduce this facility in Garuda Indonesia Executive Lounge at Terminal 3 Soekarno Hatta International Airport”, explained Ari Askhara.

“From the result of the customer satisfaction survey that we conducted on passengers, the majority of passengers felt very helped in enjoying long haul flights with the presence of the VR Experience facility”.

“During the last three months flight, customer satisfaction of the VR Experience facilities reached 85%. Where 65% of customers were very satisfied and 20% were satisfied. Passengers preferred VR and 3D content than conventional content, with an average usage of 1 hour 20 minutes”.

“In line with the positive response from passengers, we are currently continuing to develop and update VR Experience technology in collaboration with Allosky – Skylights”.

“One of the stages of technology development that we have developed is through the integration of the cabin announcement feature in the VR Experience feature so that the passengers who are enjoying the VR Experience facility will be seamlessly connected to cabin announcement”.

“With the seamless technology integration, the convenience of passengers in enjoying this feature would be increasingly optimized. The integration of VR and cabin announcement at Garuda Indonesia services are the first breakthrough in the world that Allosky – Skylights and global airlines have developed”.

“We also introduced this feature in Haneda – Jakarta flight route on March 28th, 2019. We are very optimistic that we could officially introduce this feature in the near future”, said Ari Askhara.

In addition to the integration of the cabin announcement feature, Garuda Indonesia is currently exploring online streaming feature on this VR Experience feature.

Ari added, “With Allosky Skylights, in the future, we would continue to develop various innovations in in-flight entertainment technology, such as relaxing seat massage facility which would be the first in the world”.

Virtual Reality (VR) is the latest technological breakthrough in supporting entertainment choices of audiovisual content that present different sensation through 3D and wide angle screen 180/360 degrees.
