7 Packing Tips To Master Your Bags

International air travel is back and airports are busy. Unfortunately, queues and other operational issues might impact your bag’s journey through the airport. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you’re packing for your next trip:

  1. No vital medication. Ever.

Prescription medication can be hard to get hold of on your travels. If you rely on doctor- prescribed medicine to keep your health in check, keep it in your hand luggage. Always.

  2. If it’s valuable, keep it on you.

Hand luggage – not hold baggage - is the place for electronics, jewellery and other high-value items. Same for sentimental items, such as a child’s favourite teddy, that you can’t replace.

  3. Carry on some essentials.

In the unfortunate event that your checked bag doesn’t arrive with you, having a change of clothes in your carry on helps to keep you fresh while you wait for your bag.

  4. Mix it up.

Flying with other people? Make sure your bags are packed with items of clothing for each person. That way if a bag doesn’t arrive on time, everyone has something to wear.

  5. Add some ID…

Put your name address and a contact telephone number inside and out and make sure your bag is easy to identify by adding a bright ribbon, strap or tag. Removing the little barcode stickers on the side of your bag before you drop it helps prevent it being misdirected.

  6. …but don’t pack it.

Absent-mindedly putting your passport in a checked bag after you’ve shown it to the check-in agent is a sure-fire way to ensure your trip is over before it starts. Don’t do it.

  7. Travel lighter.

Consider downsizing and bring a cabin-sized bag. You’ll save time by not needing to drop your bag at check-in and can deplane and be on your way sooner on arrival
